Foodbank Support

foodbankcontentcropFood Bank is a Methodist church initiative started by the Trussell Trust. It provides three days emergency food supply to those who need it, including those on low income or those who are experiencing benefit delays or changes, or who are in debt or homeless.

Trentham Methodist Church has supported and contributed to the Foodbank service from the outset. Each week several bags of food are donated by members of our church, which are taken to the main Foodbank distribution centre in Blurton. There are about twenty outlets in Stoke-on-Trent.

How foodbank works

Churches, schools, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to a foodbank. Large collections often take place as part of Harvest Festival celebrations and food is also collected at supermarkets. Foodbank volunteers sort food to check that it’s in date and pack it into boxes ready to be given to people in need.

Foodbank partners with a wide range of care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers and police to identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a Foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days’ emergency food. Volunteers meet clients over a warm drink or free hot meal and are able to signpost them to agencies if there are longer-term issues to be addressed.

How to donate to Foodbank through us

You can bring along any donations of dried goods in packets, jars or tinned food before the Sunday Morning Service or anytime you visit church during the week. Donations should be left in bags inside the entrance porch. Volunteers will take the donations to the main Foodbank distribution centre in Blurton.
