Minister's Message

Dear Friends
Happy New Year!  The decorations and tree have been put away, the Christmas biscuits and chocolates are nearly all gone (on my hips!) and the story of that first Christmas has been put to rest until next year.
Thank you to all who made Christmas a special time at Trentham Methodist – the Christmas Tree Decorators, the partakers and servers of drinks and food, the worshippers, music makers, story tellers and even cracker joke tellers - THANK YOU.
The story may have been put to rest but now, as Howard Thurman says in his poem, ‘The work of Christmas begins’.  Thurman’s words then remind us of Jesus’ mission statement in Luke 4 v18 and 19:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

As we begin 2020 we are encouraged by Jesus’ words to do all we can to ensure his mission continues.  Let us continue telling the telling the story of Jesus Christ that was and allowing his story to continue emerging as we carry out his mission in 2020.  And remember his greatest commandment to love one another.
I wish you a blessed 2020.  May you know God is with you through all the ups and downs.
