Covid-19

Dear Friends,
Another week has passed, but this week somewhat wet and windy!
We continue to make progress in reducing the transmission of Coronavirus with a reduction of new cases and of deaths. The virus remains with us but if we all continue to follow the guidance, then hopefully the lockdown can be further relaxed. I think it may still be a while before we can meet together in Church, but I hope that through this weekly newsletter and through telephone calls with Church friends we can all remain connected.
This week we celebrate Trinity Sunday – the first Sunday after Pentecost when we think of God as three in one – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It’s a difficult concept to understand or explain but it is sometimes considered as the sum of many parts. Trinity could be considered the summary of the scripture. Some of you may be familiar with Roots (A Christian Resource) and I came across this story. It is a children’s story about coloured windows, and how colours, like the persons of the Trinity, combine to make more than the sum of the parts. One day a group was thinking of redecorating their Church, and they were asked to think of a colour that reminded them of God, so that a stained glass window could be made. One of them said that the window should be clear, because that reminded them of the Spirit of God. Through the clear window we would see people and creation and be reminded that God’s Spirit is at work in people and in the world. God’s Spirit is also transparent like the  wind, and blows where it will. Someone else suggested yellow for light, because Jesus is the light of the world, and when the sun shone it would cast a yellow glow of light around the room. Someone else suggested blue, because it reminded them of the power of the sea, the sky and the creative power of God. They each debated the merits of their suggestions, but then the artist turned  around and showed them her sketch. The window had clear patches and blue and yellow patches, but where the three  colours overlapped there was the most amazing emerald green. The window was duly made, and the three colours used, but the centre of the window was the most beautiful part of all.
We each have our own vision of God, but when we put them together, when we look at God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, then our understanding of God is enriched, deeper  and far more beautiful than we could ever imagine.
I thought I would share with you a poem by Ann Jones from Holy Trinity in Rothwell called “Corona 2020”
Coronavirus 2020
All our street are looking empty.
Coronavirus new to us,
We really should not make a fuss.
No longer can we shop  in town,
Don’t  let this virus get us down.
No school for children every day,
They may be thinking Holiday.
Mum or Dad will teach them now,
With internet help, we all need now.
Neighbours help each other out ,
Especially  those who can’t get  about.
Goodwill is present everywhere,
We clap our hands for those who care.
The government say isolate,
To save the Country from awful fate.
Let’s pray for an end to this terrible state
When once more Britain can be great.

As you pray, please think of  those who are ill with Coronavirus and the families of those who have died. Please also hold in prayer all those who are delivering caring and essential services  to help keep us safe and pray for those known to us in our Church family
