A Letter from Rev Linda
Dear friends
June is the Methodist Bible Month and this year we will be following the Gospel of Mark in our services and Circuit Bible Study on Zoom. The book opens with the following words:
The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God… Mark 1:1
These opening words speak volumes. Firstly, this is ‘good news’ – a very positive beginning to capture the attention of the readers. Secondly, it is about ‘Jesus’ and if you were not sure who that was or why he was special, then Mark immediately tells you with two swift descriptions:
‘the Messiah’ – this means ‘anointed one’ and the Jewish people had awaited the coming of this special anointed one from God since the prophets spoke of him around 700 BCE. He was expected to save God’s people.
‘the Son of God’ – therefore directly related to God, an intricate part of the deity.
Wow! What a beginning to an amazing story.
All the Churches in our Stoke on Trent South Circuit will have reopened their doors by the first Sunday in June. What a wonderful month to therefore be reminded of the ‘good news of Jesus’. It is as relevant today as it was when Mark first wrote those words. We are now the followers who have a responsibility to ensure the good news of Jesus continues to be told and shown through our actions. As we study the gospel of Mark let us be challenged to pray and consider how we can share this good news today. We need to recognise the needs of the people in the communities where we live, work or play and be ready to move into action on behalf of Jesus Christ. We have a helper and that is the Holy Spirit who comes to live in us and guides us forward in faith.
The Circuit Plan for June to August will be circulated shortly.
We will no longer be holding a weekly Circuit Zoom Service but will be moving to a monthly Circuit Zoom Service on the fourth Sunday of the month at 4.00pm.
The dates of this quarters are: Sunday 27 June; Sunday 25 July; Sunday 22 August.
